For the past 7-8 years, I've been kicking around this idea for a podcast aimed at communicating more nuanced and advanced concepts of forest ecology and silviculture that is accessible to a broad audience. Last year, I started a blog to explore these ideas further and also document my experiences in work and life. Recently, I began working on the podcast more intentionally, with help from some great friends who volunteered their time and insight. While the first full episodes are still in the pipeline, I'll be sharing interview clips over the next few months. Below is a snippet from a fantastic conversation I had with Dr. Mark Swanson, Professor of Family Forestry and Starker Chair at Oregon State University. In this clip, Dr. Swanson reflects on what it's like to experience an old-growth Douglas fir forest, and discusses the importance of these forests - not just ecologically, but in fostering humility and a deeper care for our forests and earth. I hope you enjoy this reflection as much as I do!
